Attention Child Care Centers:
First Children's Finance would like to introduce their new program called Quality First. The program combines a quality incentive grant with a loan and is exclusively for child care centers that need money for quality improvements or facility expansion. Quality First financing packages include a minimum loan from First Children's Finance of $25,000 plus a grant of 10% of the loan amount up to a maximum grant of $5,000. The center can be either for profit or nonprofit. The program is limited and must have applications in by June 30, 2008.

Loans
First Children's Finance makes loans to child care and early education businesses. They finance new businesses, and support expansion, quality improvements, and operations for existing ones. Loans are available to both family child care providers and centers.

Visit First Children's Finance online or call 1-866-562-6801 for more information.

R.E.E.T.A.I.N Grants

R.E.E.T.A.I.N (Retaining Early Educators Through Attaining Incentives Now) is a workforce retention program that offers grants to child care providers. REETAIN is a project of Minnesota Child Care Resource & Referral Network that works to support child care professionals who demonstrate a dedication to the field of child development through supplemental salary grants.

This open-ended grant is available to child care providers who:
  • Are licensed or work for a licensed program
  • Work at least 30 hours per week directly with same one or two groups of children
  • Have been working in their current position for at least one year
  • Have earned a CDA, Associate Degree, Bachelors degree or higher
  • Are willing to commit to staying in their position for one year.
Applications will be electronically scored and reviewed by REETAIN staff. Priorities for the grants are based on education level, longevity in the field, salary and recent training. Child care providers that are awarded this grant will receive between $1,000 and $3,500. The grant will be paid in two six month intervals, the first in December and the second in June. The grants are considered additional salary, and are therefore taxable income. REETAIN recipients may spend the money however they choose.

The REETAIN grant is a competitive grant. Your chances of being awarded a grant depend on the total number of applicants and the extent to which you meet the grant priorities.

If you meet the basic requirements listed above, please log on to www.MNSTREAMS.org beginning June 1, 2008 to apply. You will need a user id and password to login. If you do not know your user id and password, contact Midwest CCR&R at 1-877-311-2244. Although online application is preferred, applicants can print the application from the website and mail them in.
