The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) has implemented the “Training Linked to Grants” requirement for the Child Care Grants awarded to child care providers in Minnesota. It is the goal that linking this training requirement to the CCR&R grant process will increase the quality of child care provided and lead to improved child outcomes.

All grant recipients must complete the required training before they can receive their grant reimbursement.

If you receive a grant award:
  1. The training requirement is 12 hours of training for grant awards up to $500 dollars or 16 hours of training for grant awards of more than $500 dollars.
  2. If your grant request is approved, your grant award letter will require you to select 12 or 16 hours of training from the CCR&R training catalog, MNStreams website, or approved list.
    > View the CCR&R training catalog
    > Visit the MnStreams website
    > View the list of approved training
  3. The training that is required for you to receive a grant must occur between August 1, 2008 and April 30, 2009. You are allowed to count up to 6 hours taken between August 1, 2008 - November 1, 2008. The remaining 6 or 10 hours must be after November 1, 2008 until April 30, 2009. The costs of participating in this required training are the responsibility of the grantee. The grantee may choose to include the cost of the required training that occurs after November 1, 2008 (the date of the award letter) as part of the grant application. Training paid for prior to the date of the award letter is not eligible for grant reimbursement.
  4. You must complete the training requirement before receiving reimbursement for your award.
  5. You must submit a Learning Plan Self-assessment. The self-assessment is designed to help you identify core competency areas where you may benefit from additional training and education. If you receive a grant, you will work with Diane Sjelin, Professional Development Coordinator to identify training sessions or classes that will meet the grant's training requirement.
  6. You must submit training certificates for all of the training you completed to meet the grant requirements. You must submit all of your required training certificates before receiving any reimbursement for your grant award.
Note: Food program training is not an approved training option.

Grant applications will be available beginning September 1, 2008. Contact Tina at tinap5@willmarnet.com or (320)269-8727 or (800)292-5437 with questions.
